Who are Friends of PHS Performing Arts? Friends of PHS Performing Arts consists of family, friends, community members, and businesses supportive of existing and future performing arts activities at Pittsburg High School — specifically choir, theatre, and pit band players for musical theatre.
More than 300 students are active in the performing arts. Those areas have seen tremendous successes in recent years, partly due to community support and engagement.
Our goal is to ensure that the arts are accessible to all and that NO STUDENT is ever left out of an arts activity because of an inability to pay.
The Friends group maintains a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube account to increase awareness of PHS Performing Arts, promote upcoming events, and maintain connections with alumni and families. This publicity includes all theatre, choir, and instrumental events, although funding for instrumental music (wind ensemble, orchestra, jazz band, and marching band) is provided through a separate support group called Band Boosters.
We raise money through fundraisers (flapjack fundraisers, Evening With the Stars cabaret, Jimmy's Egg discount cards, and more) and by seeking membership contributions.
How is your contribution used? Your annual financial or in-kind donations or Friends membership will help fund:
scholarships and food for students to attend state thespian conference
travel stipends for students chosen to perform at district and state contests for choir and theatre
year-end scholarships given to graduating seniors
food during dress rehearsal week and on show weekends
Those who become a paying member of Friends of PHS Performing Arts will be listed in the program at each show and concert. We also welcome other kinds of support, from volunteering a few hours selling tickets or concessions at a show, to contributing snacks or bottled water for long rehearsals.
How long does my support last? Your membership in Friends occurs on an annual basis. Each year you will have the opportunity to renew your support.
